AnchorTO

AnchorTO is a community of practice of 18 participating public institutions that are based in, or have significant operations in the city of Toronto and all have a community mandate. The institutions represent governments, agencies, postsecondary institutions, and community builders. They promote social procurement, inclusive workforce initiatives, and capitol investment. Their activities include: investment in community assets, the creation of employment and training opportunities and procurement from community-based and diverse suppliers. Working together, we convene stakeholders, steward large-scale community-based initiatives and shift policy across the inclusive community economic development sector to support our activities. Inclusive workforce initiatives include embedding employment targets in procurement contracts, as well as identifying strategies to hire individuals directly who are distant from the labour market. Examples of this work in action include intentionally supporting minority-owned or Indigenous-led businesses through purchasing, or prioritizing purchases from high impact social enterprises
