About

The First Nations Information Governance Centre is an independent, apolitical, and technical non-profit organization operating with a special mandate from the Assembly of First Nations’ Chiefs-in-Assembly. FNIGC offers a variety of education and training options to support both First Nations and others in asserting, respecting, and promoting The First Nations principles of ownership, control, access, and possession (OCAP). Their primary tool is The Fundamentals of OCAP online course. This course provides a foundation in OCAP and introduces knowledge that can be translated into practical skills in a variety of settings. FNIGC is also able to offer workshops and presentations, both online and in-person, which can be tailored to meet learner group needs. We also work with FNIGC’s regional partners to support their education and training needs and advance the development of community-led, Nation-based approaches to information governance and data sovereignty.
